Description: This timber sale is a combination of logger-select thinning and clearcut within mature pine plantations. Areas designated for second thinning are slash pine stand previously row thinned 14 years ago. Trees for harvest includes select thinning of old leave rows to remove diseased, defective, and suppressed trees to achieve 50 sq ft of basal area per acre. Areas designated for first thinning consist of mature pine plantations where trees for harvest includes removal of every second row and a select thinning of leave rows to achieve 40-45 sq ft of basal area per acre. Timber to be removed from leave rows will be harvested based on the following criteria: diseased, defective, and suppressed trees shall be harvested first, followed by a portion of the intermediate and co-dominant trees to reach the desired density. Area for clearcut includes 16.9 acres of mature slash pine. All merchantable pine shall be harvested from this area. Harvest only hardwoods within stand 3001009. The District estimates the volume of timber conveyed in this Agreement to be 4,270 tons of pine pulpwood, 1,151 tons of chip-n-saw (CNS), 285 tons of sawtimber, 169 tons of hardwood pulpwood, but there is no guarantee that the volume is present.
