Description: The objective is to develop a density-dependent numerical model of the Southern District to predict changes in groundwater levels, spring discharges, and water quality in the coastal areas of the Central Springs East Coast planning area (CSEC). These changes may result from increases in groundwater withdrawals, sea level rise, and other aspects of climate change.
The results from model simulations and predictions will:
• Provide data to the District for regional water supply planning and regulatory decisions in this region.
• Assist the District in better understanding the movement of the saltwater-freshwater interface, saltwater upconing, and potential water quality degradation over the planning horizon.
• Be used in the water resource assessment conducted for the Central Springs East Coast regional water supply plan update scheduled for 2025/2026. Specifically, model output will be displayed in the plan and the results will be incorporated into the groundwater availability determinations
• Be used to develop strategies to address potential water quality problems due to lateral saltwater intrusion and vertical upconing.
• Be used to assist in regulatory decisions as appropriate
