Title: North Region Fireline Disking

Deadline: 2/9/2023 2:00 PM   (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)

Status: Deadline Expired

Solicitation Number: 38390

Description: The St. Johns River Water Management District’s North Region manages more than 42,000 acres of conservation and restoration lands within six Florida counties. The reason for purchasing these lands is for water resource protection, natural resource management and natural resource conservation. Protection and improvement of natural systems is a District core mission. The two primary ecological functions that typically need to be restored on the landscape are proper hydrologic flow and proper fire return intervals. To reintroduce and maintain fire within these systems, existing firelines must be maintained. Properly maintained firelines are vital to safe application of prescribed fire and assisting in combatting wildfires when they occur. The firelines within this project were last disked in 2020 or more recently. Currently the firelines have grass, pine needles and small saplings (less than 2”) on them. Disking these firelines down
to mineral soil will provide for safe application and suppression of fire on District lands. This project calls for the disking (disc harrow) of all the designated firelines on the attached maps. A completed fireline will be disked, down to mineral soil, without skips, in a manner that will not incur future erosion and will be clear of all debris. If the contractor’s equipment requires multiple passes over the same fireline to achieve this objective, it does not change the number of miles of billable work. A single pass is expected to meet the objective if appropriate equipment is utilized in an efficient manner.
