Description: This work entails the collection of surface water quality samples from canals and urban streams. The sampling emphasizes the time-critical phase of runoff following storm events or during prolonged high flow associated with high cumulative rainfall totals to focus on the conditions that are most conducive to potential nutrient mobility. Two approaches will be employed for the sample and data collection:

1. Storm runoff grab sampling will be performed at sites located in Central and South-Central Florida. Data collected under this regimen will create a data set representative of the water chemistry that constitutes the greater proportion of constituent load. For general planning purposes, storm grab samples are typically collected within 24 hours of the initiation of rainfall, though timing can depend on the size and flashiness of the watershed.
2. Sites that are anticipated to be associated with more detailed studies in their watersheds are to be instrumented with automated samplers to distinguish the changes in constituent concentrations through seasonal changes and within the storm hydrograph rising limb, peak flow and falling limb. Some of these sites may also be instrumented with rainfall and discharge sensors to calculate precipitation totals and runoff volume.
