FAS Bridge 495 Guardrail Repair

Barton County, KS

Barton County is soliciting proposals for the repair of a damaged bridge guardrail installation in the northeast quadrant of FAS Bridge 495 west of Great Bend, KS.  The bridge is located approximately 0.6 miles west of Great Bend on West Barton County Road and spans the City of Great Bend flood control ditch.  All materials and field installation are to match the existing guardrail installation and comply with applicable KDOT design standards in effect at the time of design and installation.  The project will be sales tax exempt.  The contractor is to field verify dimensions, conditions, and guardrail style as necessary to submit a proposal with pricing that includes all necessary labor, equipment, and materials to complete the work.  The price is to be a lump sum bid to restore the guardrail system.  Following is a description of the damaged items that are to be replaced, and of the items that are anticipated to remain.

Remove and install the following items.

1.       Terminal end with reflective sticker added, cable anchor system, soil tubes (believed to be 2), 8 wood posts with blocks.  The 8 posts to be replaced are anchored in soil.  The existing posts that lie within the concrete flume area appear to be OK.

2.       Wood block on the 8th post from the concrete corral rail.  This post is in the concrete flume and the post is OK.

3.       1 @ 25’ thrie beam rail.

4.       1 @ 6.25’ thrie beam to W beam transition section.

5.       1 @ 12.5’ W beam rail.

6.       1 @ 25’ W beam rail.

7.       Hardware necessary for replacement of the above items.

The following items are believed to be undamaged and are to remain.

1.       Attachment shoe for thrie beam to corral rail connection.

2.       1 @ 12.5 thrie beam section that begins at the concrete corral rail end and is nested behind the 25’ thrie beam section that is to be replaced as noted in item no. 3 above.

3.        The first 7 wood posts and blocks beginning at the concrete corral rail.  The 8th post is also OK but the wood block is to be replaced as noted in item no. 2 above.

The proposal is to contain the contractor’s lump sum price along with the estimated time of work commencement and completion and a copy of the contractor’s Certificate of Liability Insurance.  It is to contain the name and contact information of the person with your firm who will be the official contact for any contractual relationship.  The replacement of the damaged guardrail in a timely manner is of importance and the contractor’s schedule will be taken into consideration, as will the contractor’s experience in the installation of guardrail meeting KDOT specifications.
