Description: The St Johns River Water Management District owns and manages over 80,000 acres of conservation lands within four counties comprising the District’s South Central Region. The reason for purchasing these lands is for water resource protection, natural resource management and natural resource conservation. Protection and improvement of natural systems is a District core mission. To reintroduce and maintain fire within these systems, existing firelines must be maintained. Properly maintained firelines are vital to safe application of prescribed fire and assisting in combatting wildfires when they occur. Depending on the site, soil type, vegetation adjacent to firelines, and current conditions, adequate fireline preparation techniques. Tracked equipment may be more suitable in some areas due to the terrain. Some areas may be seasonally inaccessible due to water levels. Project manager will assist with directing work when conditions are accessible. The purpose of this Scope of Work is to maintain our firelines at a level that will provide for safe application and suppression of fire on District lands. This project calls for the disking (disc harrow) of all the designated firelines on the attached maps. A completed fireline will be disked, down to mineral soil, without skips, in a manner that will not incur future erosion and will be clear of all debris. If the contractor’s equipment requires multiple passes over the same fireline to achieve this objective, it does not change the number of miles of billable work. A single pass is expected to meet the objective if appropriate equipment is utilized in an efficient manner.
