Addition 3
Posted: 3/1/2022
Type of Addition: Clarification
Overview: We do not have details on the existing retaining wall and its foundation. We expect the contractor to have their structural engineers investigate the structural status of the existing retaining wall and its foundation before the commencement of construction and obtain the dimension and material details to their satisfaction to replace it in kind. The County is not telling the contractor what to expect during excavation – be it for walls, underground utilities, or other structures. As described in the line item for the wall, the County will pay for the excavation of the foundation as rock excavation if necessary. All bidders should estimate with the same kind of limited information and unknown variables.
If the contractor's investigation reveals the pipes can be installed without removing a portion of the wall, the contractor may submit drawings and details to the project officer during construction, and it will be determined at the time.
Addition 4
Posted: 3/4/2022
Type of Addition: Clarification 2
Overview: Please see below regarding the question to Addendum #1, Questions and Answers, Answer #1:
The revised extents of the concrete slab above the Stormwater Detention System is 79.0’ x 34.5’ centered on the Stormwater Detention System. The quantities for concrete, asphalt, and milling remain unchanged as the extent for the length of the concrete slab was mistyped in the RFI response.
Please see the Arlington County Construction Standards and Specifications 02542 – Underground Stormwater Detention Pipe System, and 02200 – Earthwork. No quantity adjustments are needed for backfill 21A.
