Deadline: 5/10/2021 5:00 PM   (UTC-07:00) Arizona

Status: Awarded

Solicitation Number: 202105010

Description:

The City of Avondale is seeking to install public art for a new Fire Station #175, which is currently under construction at 127th Avenue and Van Buren Street. The public art will be located outdoors, in a highly visible site near the east entrance of the Station.  It will be viewed from the street by both pedestrians and motorists, and is in proximity to another public art sculpture, The Flow, located at the northwest corner of 127th Avenue and Van Buren Street. The public art piece can be either a newly-conceived or readily available for purchase art work that will complement the site and be thematically appealing.

Question 1

Posted: 4/25/2021

Question: I'm interested in the call, and see that you have listed electric power is available to the site. Would a proposal incorporating sophisticated, site-appropriate LED lighting new media piece be seriously considered, or would the city prefer a static, perhaps only white light, spotlight lit installation? Please advise.

Response: The First Responder Tribute can accommodate lighting if necessary. It is not intended to be an interactive public art piece as it will be located within the Fire Station property, however, the piece will be visible to passerby on foot or by vehicle.

Question 2

Posted: 4/28/2021

Question: Would Avondale consider a subtle, appropriately lit (with multicolored LEDs) new media proposal for the public art installation, or would you prefer that it be more traditional, static, with perhaps white in-ground spotlights? I’m thinking of making visual reference to the “heart” campaign motif, but in a different but consistent manner. Also, I’m thinking of an “interactive” installation that might have some integrated shaded bench seating (perhaps even a table top) included for passersby if that were desirable. Please advise.

Response: The First Responder Tribute can accommodate lighting if necessary. It is not intended to be an interactive public art piece as it will be located within the Fire Station property, however, the piece will be visible to passerby on foot or by vehicle.
