Question 1

Posted: 10/9/2023

Question: For an 800 sq ft room how many air changes per hour are you looking for? The air purifier performance standard is the CADR. What are the CADR requirements? (to prove effective for 800 sq ft since non-CADR tests don't reflect effectiveness for a given room size) EnergyStar is a requirement in most school air purifier purchases. Would you consider adding EnergyStar as a requirement here? Would you accept air purifiers with filters if the price of the replacement filters is included in the price? Would this be for 3 years (the warranty period)?

Response: At least 2 air changes, CADR between 200-250, EnergyStar can be evaluated, filters are not desired, we are seeking the best warranty period available

Question 2

Posted: 10/10/2023

Question: Hello. Thank you for letting us know about your need for air purifiers. A few things stand out in the bid such as no maintenance, Carb certified and under 20w. Do you have a specific brand or model in mind? We have carried many brands over the years; however, none fit all of these requirements. Are all the requirements MUST haves or are any optional? Thank you Barb Lulay USAirPurifiers.com

Response: We have used WellAir NV900W. We are seeking all of the requirements.

Question 3

Posted: 10/10/2023

Question: Can we submit a proposal for a unit that can go in the HVAC unit and cover the entire campus?

Response: We are considering external wall mounted units only.

Question 4

Posted: 10/13/2023

Question: Can we submit more than one bid if we have different options for equipment?

Response: No, only one bid will be accepted. Multiple bids will not be accepted.

Question 5

Posted: 10/13/2023

Question: Do you have a specific model in mind for this bid? You mentioned you have used WellAir NV900W however that doesn't meet the requirements for 2 air changes per hour for an 800 sq ft room nor the 200-250 CADR. The requirements as stated do not address the safety concerns as documented by the EPA (https://www.epa.gov/sites/default/files/2018-07/documents/residential_air_cleaners_-_a_technical_summary_3rd_edition.pdf) page 9: "Plasma air cleaners have been shown to form particles, ozone, carbon monoxide, and formaldehyde as byproducts. Additionally, many electronic air cleaner devices—including portable and duct-mounted ESPs, ionizers or ion generators, uncoated UVGI lamps, and other products that advertise the use of “plasma,” “ions,” and other similar terms—can generate high amounts of ozone. Ozone is a well-documented lung irritant. Intentional ozone generators should not be used in occupied spaces." Would you consider UL507 as a requirement? Many schools have required this to ensure mechanical filtration only (zero ozone, no chemical reactions, no electronic filtering) is used as a way to ensure there are no byproducts produced to address the concerns as outlined by the EPA and indoor air quality experts in general. The EPA further states "The California Air Resources Board mandates device testing for ozone production following UL Standard 867, but currently no national regulation or voluntary program exists that requires independent measurement and certification that the production of ozone from these devices does not reach hazardous levels." UL867 doesn't indicate that a product is safe in a real world environment. It's done in a lab environment and doesn't capture any of the chemical reactions that can occur in a classroom.

Response: We are not looking at residential units. UL rating was not a rated criterion.
